Harold Abramowitz, Teresa Carmody, and Ara Shirinyan met to discuss culture making activities in the LA Avant Undeground, addressing issues such as events and publishing practices of the Los Angeles Avant Garde, what it means to be underground, whether there is an avant aesthetic, and, if so, how it is conditioned by its underground nature.

Harold Abramowitz is the author of the chapbook Three Column Table from Insert Press, co-curates Late Night Snack Literary Cabaret and co-edits a new experimental press, Eohippus Labs, with Amanda Ackerman.

Teresa Carmody is the founding director of Les Figues Press. She co-organized the original Lady Fest Women’s Art Festival and Feminaissance, a 2007 colloquium on women and writing at MOCA. She is the author of the book of short stories Requiem, and with Ara Shirinyan and Joseph Mosconi, is co-curator of the Last Sunday Reading Series at the Smell.

Ara Shirinyan is editor of Make-Now Press. His first book, Syria is in the World is out on Palm Press and his book Your Country is Great is forthcoming from FuturePoem Books. He co-curates the Last Sunday reading series with Teresa Carmody and Joseph Mosconi. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in/on Wordways, UBU Web, Trepan, and Area Sneaks, among others.
